Situated on 25 acres of Waimea Plain land beautifully located for peace and quiet with 360 degree views of mountains, Richmond Ranges and the Waimea Estuary.
Appleby House was built in 2008 for guests to enjoy, in 2018 we added Rabbit Island Huts to the property followed in 2020 by our banquet hall, allowing us to offer more flexibility re meeting, retreat or yoga spaces for our guests.
Everything is so close - Mapua (8 min drive), Richmond (8 min drive) Rabbit Island (beach & bird sanctuary) with kms of biking, walking and riding tracks found in gorgeous isolation & Rough Island (white baiting, bird watching and equestrian park).
You pass us on the way to the Abel Tasman National Park, great option for staying if you are traveling to the Park, or want to be in the middle of the Nelson Tasman Great Taste Cycle Trail.
Close to everything you want when you are on holiday, rivers, beaches, cafes, shopping, local artists, wineries, National Parks. Minutes from both Mapua (cafes, arts & crafts) and Richmond (shopping) and 20 minutes drive from Nelson City.
Located only 200 meters from the Nelson Great Taste Cycle Trail - we are virtually on the trail.
Very similar to a hotel experience, all rooms are very separate and private, although there are spaces you can share with other guests if you would like e.g. kitchen, outdoor entertainment areas and downstairs lounge with open fire. What you do not get at Appleby House is 24 hour reception or room service, although we are always on call for you if we are needed. We like to greet our guests but sometimes we will miss you, we will always send you an email prior to your stay with all instructions and then you simply arrive and make yourself at home.
We are not a b&b and we are not a hotel, we try to bring you the best of both worlds.
Another unique experience, it is a little bit hotel, little bit glamping and a little bit traditional Kiwi camping, all done with with comfort in mind. This experience is very environmentally focused we have a small footprint (they are small) all our timber has been locally milled from fallen trees, we have used only organic oils and paints. We recycle and reuse as much as possible but always with comfort and guest enjoyment as our main focus.
Our newest little project - the tent is canvas over a wooden structure, it has one queen bed (option of single mattress also) lounge area, fridge, tea & coffee making and your own outdoor BBQ and outdoor seating area.
You are private from Rabbit Island Huts, walk over your own bridge to your own private get away.
We can also cater to groups e.g. weddings, retreats or simply big family get togethers, so please do not hesitate to contact us for further information.
